Lil’s 10th Anniversary Cancer Survivor Celebration

My name is Lil Sawyer and 10 years ago when I was diagnosed with breast cancer while working at Mackie H-D, the Durham HOG, the Scarborough HOG and the Durham Divas together with the employees at Mackie H-D came together to host an encouragement party for me and my son. The support we received from the motorcycle community and friends made all the difference in the world. I believe that night changed my perspective and gave me the extra fight I needed to kick cancer to curb then and now. While it was awesome that financially the group raised the difference between my sick benefit and my full time pay, the amazing thing was the picture I carried in my mind of everyone standing with me and against cancer. I took several mental snap shots of everyone before going into the second half of the very difficult chemo treatments and every day since. My then 8 year old son saw what it really means to experience community/humanity at it’s finest and I know it has molded him into the person he is today as he heads off to university in the fall.

This year, 2019 is the 10th anniversary and I am hosting a celebration event to thank and honor all those people who stood with me. I want them to know the difference that they made in our life. I am hoping you can help me by sharing this email and attached invitation to the chapter members.

Please see attached an invitation with details of the event schedule for August 10 starting at 6pm to 11pm. Please join us for food and a social time between 6 and 9pm. At around 9pm with the help of a DJ we will turn it into a rock ‘n roll dance party. Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre was also very instrumental in mine and my son’s healing journey, so we are fundraising at the event to help them continue the great work that they do for families in the Durham region.
